Locate the Ada County case in Idaho’s court system

Begin at the Idaho Judicial Branch’s Court Records & Cameras page and follow its iCourt Portal link to mycourts.idaho.gov. Ada County is in the Fourth Judicial District. Use the person’s accurate name or an existing case reference to find the proceeding, then verify that the result is filed in Ada County before requesting copies.

Save the case number, court, parties and relevant docket dates. The portal provides general case information; a courthouse kiosk or the clerk where the case was filed is the route for the actual record. A name match is only a lead. Compare available identifiers and events rather than attributing a namesake’s criminal case to someone. The same official page provides a separate Party Verification route for background-check users.

Turn the docket into a precise copy request

Read the chronological case entries to identify the particular filing that answers your question. A charging document describes allegations; a plea, judgment, sentencing order or later order answers a different question. Request the document by its title and date, with the complete case number and defendant’s name. Asking only for a criminal record can leave the clerk uncertain whether you want an order, a docket or an entire file.

Rule 32 generally permits access to public indexes, case summaries, orders, judgments and filed papers, subject to exemptions and sealing. Tell the clerk whether you want inspection, an ordinary copy or a certified copy for a recipient that requires certification. A printout of the portal’s case summary should not be represented as a certified judgment.

Settle the copy format, price and response arrangements

The current Rule 32 leaves paper-copy pricing to the district court clerk within the statutory limit in Idaho Code § 31-3201; other copying charges are set by the applicable court order. Costs are payable in advance, and waiting for payment extends the response time. A current Ada-specific dollar schedule was not verified here, so obtain the clerk’s written quote for the number of pages, certification and delivery you request.

The Judicial Branch says most requests receive records, a denial or referral to a custodian judge within three working days. If more time is needed to decide or gather records, its guidance calls for notice within ten working days. These are response procedures, not a promise that every archived or restricted file will be delivered in three days. Specify an acceptable delivery method and retain the acknowledgment.

Handle a missing, restricted or disputed record

Ada publishes a Request to Inspect, Duplicate or Transcribe Exempt or Sealed Records form. It asks for the requester’s details, case name and number, the precise document or proceeding, and the reason and intended use. The custodial judge can allow disclosure, require redactions or deny it. Ordinary portal access does not authorize access to sealed material.

If a public request is denied, Rule 32 provides a request for a ruling by the custodian judge. If an online entry seems inaccurate, send the clerk the case number, the disputed entry and the corresponding filed order so the discrepancy can be examined. An absent online image does not establish dismissal, sealing or the absence of a case; ask which condition actually applies.

Keep Sheriff reports and federal prosecutions separate

For an Ada Sheriff incident report or jail-arrest history, use the Sheriff’s public-records request route, not a court-copy request. Supply the full name, birth date and incident or booking details. Written requests can also go to the Public Safety Information Center at 7200 Barrister, Boise. The Sheriff publishes a 3–10-business-day response range and will identify any charge; its records line is 208-577-3012.

The Sheriff’s arrest-history service covers people booked into the Ada County jail and does not supply other counties’ histories. It also says it does not perform public background checks, directing statewide requests to Idaho’s Bureau of Criminal Identification. Federal District of Idaho prosecutions are outside the state system; use the federal-court link on the Judicial Branch’s records page. None of these separate searches replaces the filing court’s final disposition.
